Open the Website support page for your model series.
Open Category Product Information
Open the Specifications for your computer
Note the Product Number
Open PartSurfer
Select your region (USA)
Enter the Product Number into the search bar on the webpage.
Example using HP Pavilion m3-u000 x360 Convertible PC - Product Number: W2L17UA
PartSurfer - USA - Product W2L17UA
844203-850 | Battery (Primary) - 3-cell lithium-ion (Li-Ion), 3.61Ah, 41Wh (BI03041XL-PR) |
Enter the Part Number for the battery into HP Parts Store
Enter your Part Number in the search bar:
Our example part number = 844203-850
Example (Photo shows at the actual website)
(USD) Defective Core Charge
(USD) Net Price
(USD) Add to cart
844203-850 In stock Battery (Primary) - 3-cell lithium-ion (Li-Ion), 3.61Ah, 41Wh (BI03041XL-PR) | 66.00 | 0.00 | 66.00 |
So far, so good.
The "bad news" if there is any: The battery is "internal", that is, the battery is installed inside the computer casing.
If you have the skill set necessary, you can purchase the battery, remove the old battery from the computer, and install the new battery.
The instructions to do so are included in the Maintenance and Service Guide for your computer.
Open the homepage for your computer (one of the models in "Results")
Open Category User Guides
Open the Service Guide for your computer
Look for "Removal and replacement procedure..." (likely Chapter 5) and search through the list for the procedure to replace the battery.
Example using HP Pavilion x360 m3(Intel model numbers used: m3–u000 through m3–u099) Maintenance and Service Guide
Part number and procedure is on Page 41
The "not so bad news": If you cannot replace the battery yourself, any Computer Science major at your university can likely help. Take the computer to the Computer Science Department and ask for help.
No joy?
Even sending the computer in for repair of this type is not expensive (as these things go). The trouble with "sending the computer in to be fixed" is that, you know - you are sending your computer somewhere to have it fixed. So, check around for a local repair shop that you can trust - once the part is ordered (and received), the actual procedure won't take long and you may not have to have your computer away from you for a long period of time.
No joy?
HP can fix the computer (it takes more time than getting it fixed locally, of course) and there will likely be a fee for the service (plus the cost of the battery).

From HP > CAUTION
Recently, HP has seen an increased number of third-party support websites selling HP driver downloads or diagnostic tools. Many of these websites use the HP trademark symbol and claim to be official HP distributors.
If your product supports your operating system, HP offers your driver and software at no additional cost through the HP website.
Use caution when dealing with any website that asks you to pay for HP driver downloads or tools that claim to diagnose your HP products. These websites might not be affiliated with HP in any way.
Do not install BIOS updates from a motherboard manufacturer's website. Only install BIOS updates from HP. Installing BIOS updates from the motherboard manufacturer can prevent the computer from accepting an HP system recovery. This could result in a loss of data.
