- Startup Repair
- Uninstall Updates
- Uninstall latest quality update
and got the useless error "We ran into a problem and won't be able to uninstall the latest quality update of Windows".
I then selected "uninstall the latest feature update", but unfortunately received the same generic error.
Fortunately I had a backup (clone) disk, and booted that.
Unfortunately, I got distracted and that disk too downloaded the latest patches.
It rebooted, and the boot screen said "Applying patches, 1%".
I pulled the power cord.
Q: is there any way to boot this disk (in some sort of recovery mode), and prevent the installation of the Win10 patches by deleting them first?
Note: I also have a freshly built UDB drive with "Hiren's boot USB" installed on it, but have never used it. Is there a way to use this to delete the patches before they're installed?
Thanks in advance,
-Ted

Hi @navaho43
I also use Hiren's Boot media for other stuff. Can't say if you can do Windows mods at this level using Hiren's. It would probably have to be command prompt stuff.
You do seem to have a good system image. I would disconnect from the network.
Recover the ostensibly stable system image again. Reconnect to the network after changing the following Windows Update stuff.
I have limited Windows updates to security updates only using the following settings:
Have also stopped MB firmware updates in Advanced system Settings:

Hi @navaho43
Have been very lucky using the previous procedures since the introduction of W10 (2015 or 2016).
Also did the Windows Insider stuff before W10 was released for public consumption.
You have some other problem if you see this issue when downloading Windows security updates. I have never had an issue with security updates.
Check system file integrity after doing a system image restore.
Open an admin command prompt.
Enter the following commands:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Upon completion, then enter:
sfc /scannow
I don't know what else to tell you.
