Hi @Dave__N,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop isn't utilizing all of its RAM, there could be a few reasons behind it. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue.

Check Task Manager:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Go to the "Performance" tab.
  • Check the memory (RAM) usage. If it's significantly lower than the total installed RAM, there might be an issue.

Update Drivers:

  • Outdated or faulty drivers can sometimes cause issues with hardware utilization.
  • Go to the HP website, navigate to the support section, and download the latest drivers for your laptop model.

BIOS Settings:

  • Sometimes, the BIOS settings may limit the amount of RAM that the system can use.
  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup menu (usually by pressing F2, F10, F12, or Del key during startup).
  • Look for settings related to memory or RAM and ensure they are set to use the maximum available.

Check for System Updates:

  • Ensure that your operating system is up to date. Sometimes, system updates can fix issues related to hardware utilization.
  • For Windows, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

Reseat RAM:

  • Turn off your laptop and disconnect the power adapter.
  • Open the RAM compartment (usually located at the bottom of the laptop) and reseat the RAM modules.
  • Make sure they are firmly and properly seated in their slots.

Scan for Malware:

  • Malware or viruses can sometimes cause system performance issues.
  • Run a full system scan using your preferred antivirus software to check for any malicious programs.

Hardware Issues:

  • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there might be a hardware problem.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue with your HP laptop not utilizing all of its RAM.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
