@btown19760, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP Pavilion desktop is randomly freezing or restarting, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to identify and possibly resolve the issue:

Check for Software Issues:

  • Update Drivers and BIOS: Ensure that all drivers, including the graphics and chipset drivers, and the system BIOS are up to date. You can find these updates on the HP Support website.
  • Scan for Malware: Use Windows Security to scan your system for malware that could be causing instability.
  • Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows operating system is fully updated.

Scan for Hardware Issues:

  • Diagnostics: Use Windows Memory Diagnostic or HP hardware diagnostic tool to scan for any hardware issues.
  • Check for Disk Errors: Run "chkdsk" to check for and repair any issues on your hard drive. Open Command Prompt as administrator and type " chkdsk /f /r " and then restart your computer.

Check Power Supply:

  • Ensure that the power supply unit (PSU) is delivering stable power to your computer. Inconsistent power can cause restarts.

Perform a System Restore:

  • If the problem started after a certain update or software installation, consider performing a system restore to a point when the computer was working properly.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
