Hello Ibkee2u2,

Thank you for posting your concern,

Resolving "No Bootable Device" Error on HP Stream 14

When your HP Stream 14 displays "No bootable device" or "Insert boot disk and press any key," it indicates that the system is unable to find the operating system. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

  1. Check BIOS Boot Order:

    • Restart your laptop and immediately press the Esc key or F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.
    • Navigate to the "Boot" menu and ensure that the hard drive is set as the first boot device.
    • Save the changes and exit the BIOS. Restart the computer to see if it boots correctly.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset:

    • Turn off the laptop completely.
    • Disconnect all external devices, including the power adapter.
    • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to reset any hardware-related faults.
    • Reconnect the power adapter and try to restart the laptop.
  3. Attempt a System Recovery:

    • If you have previously created recovery media, use it to attempt a recovery of your operating system.
    • Insert the recovery USB or DVD and restart the computer.
    • Follow the on-screen prompts to attempt a recovery or reset of the system.
  4. Check Drive Cables:

    • If you're comfortable opening your laptop, ensure that the internal storage drive is properly connected to the motherboard. Loose connections may lead to boot issues.
    • Opening up your device might void your warranty, so proceed with caution or consider professional assistance.
  5. Create a Bootable USB:

    • Use another computer to create a bootable USB drive with Windows installation media.
    • Insert this USB into your HP Stream 14 and restart the computer.
    • Boot from the USB drive and choose the option to repair your computer to fix startup issues.
  6. Evaluate Hardware Issues:

    • If none of the above steps work, the issue could be related to a failing hard drive or SSD. You may need to replace it.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be worthwhile to contact HP Support for further assistance or consider professional repair services. They can provide more detailed diagnostics and support.
