Hi @Plan_B,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you are locked out of your HP ENVY 34 Inch All-In-One Desktop PC and unable to enter the "challenge phrase," you can try the following steps to regain access.
Restart Your Computer
- Sometimes a simple restart can resolve minor issues.
Use Safe Mode
- Restart your computer and repeatedly press the F8 key (or Shift + F8) before Windows starts.
- Select Safe Mode from the Advanced Boot Options menu.
- Once in Safe Mode, try logging in and accessing the system settings to resolve the issue.
Use Password Reset Disk
- If you have previously created a password reset disk, insert it and follow the on-screen instructions to reset your password.
Use Another Admin Account
- If there is another admin account on the computer, log in with that account and reset the password for the locked account.
Perform a System Restore
- Restart your computer and press F11 (or Esc and then F11) to access the System Recovery options.
- Choose Troubleshoot, then Advanced options, and select System Restore.
- Follow the prompts to restore your computer to a point before the issue occurred.
Resetting the PC
- If none of the above methods work, you might need to reset your PC. Note that this may result in loss of data.
- Restart your computer and press F11 (or Esc and then F11) to access the System Recovery options.
- Choose Troubleshoot, then Reset this PC.
- Follow the prompts to either keep your files or remove everything and reinstall Windows.
Using HP Recovery Manager
- Restart the computer and press F11 (or Esc and then F11) to enter the HP Recovery Manager.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to restore your computer to factory settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
