Greetings @breanbbe
Welcome to the HP Forum.
Your PC has an PCIe NVME M.2 SSD. I turn off Indexing on all of my PCs having this type drive.
Indexing puts a hit on system performance when it is running. And it runs a lot.
I have no idea why you can't open files in explorer. I also can't see why disabling indexing would cause this symptom.
You should be able to enable Indexing in Services.
Do a Windows search for "services".
Right-click the "Services" search result. Run as an Admin.
Scroll down to Windows Search within Services. Double-click on Windows Search.
It should be disabled. Click on the Startup Type input field.
Select "Automatic (delayed start)".
Click: "Apply" and "Okay".
Regards

Greetings @breanbbe
To continue,..
You should run diagnostics to check hardware if Indexing is enabled.
Check your PC's hardware using HP Diagnostics as follows:
Start the PC. Repeatedly tap the "ESC" key.
Select "F2". Run extensive system and component tests to confirm: a drive problem, a memory problem, or other component problem.
