HP ENVY Desktop - 750-247c
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP ENVY Desktop - 750-247c came with 128GB SSD and a 2TB HDD. I bought and installed a larger ssd for the operating system. I was able to clone the operating sysem to the new ssd and change the boot order so the PC will boot up using the new ssd. HOWEVER, I an a little confused about which partitions I can now delete and reformat. THe PC came with the following partitions:

Disk0:

360 MB (EFI System Partition)

Windows (C:) 117.81 GB (Boot, Crash Dump, Primary Partition) - (Changed from C: to H: in new disk configuration)

Windows RE Tools 980MB NTFS (OEM Partition)

Secondary (F:) 1743.77 GB NTFS (Page FIle, Primary Partition)

Disk 1:

(D:) 119.24 GB NTFS (Primary Partition)

After cloning the operating sysem on the new ssd, I also have:

Disk 2:

360 MB (EFI System Partition)

Windows (C:) 931.16 (Boot, Crash DUmp, Primary Partition)

I thought I would be able to tell which of the original operating system items were on the original ssd by unplugging the original ssd and power cords from the motherboard; HOWEVER when I turned the computer back on looked at the available disks in DIsk Management, the original EFI and WIndows partions were still visible.

My question is why did this happen. Is the operating system really on the HDD or is it mirrored somehow on the HDD. Also, based on this how do I delete the original operating system? And, which of the above partitions do I delete?

Thanks for any help understanding this.

Your machine has two SATA drives 128GB SSD and a 2TB HDD, that means 128GB SSD is C: Now, you wish to replace 128GB with a larger (capacity) drive. The simplest way to do

(a) Clone 128GB system drive (whole drive, not partition) to new SSD,

(b) Remove old SSD and install new SSD.

Machine will boot to new SSD automatically, why you have to change boot order ?

At the end, new SSD will have some unallocated space (which is around new SSD size minus 128GB). You can expand C: to full new SSD or do whatever you want with unallocated space.

Back to your situation now. My suggestion

(a) Do NOT change anything in BIOS,

(b) Reclone 128GB SSD to new SSD,

(c) Remove 128GB SSD and install new SSD and boot.

You now can format old SSD and put it back (if still have room and connection inside) or keep it as an backup.

Regards.
