my computer freezes up on me and i need to shut it down, why hasn't there been a patch for this problem?

Hi @johnnieg50 

 

The 690 serries PC have received a faulty update, BIOS version F.57. Do you have this version?

 

Check this Forum Link for details if your PC is unstable but you can POST and load Windows. The BIOS may have to be reprogramed by a local PC tech if video and USB I/O are corrupted. A PC tech can do this using A Serial ISP Programmer. 

 

HP usually disallows installing a prior BIOS version but try the following download. 

 

Try version F.55 Let me know if you can install F.55. If not, you will have to follow steps at the first Link using the F.55 version or use a Serial ISP Programmer. If you can install version F.55 then this suggests HP have modified this to allow installation.

 

Overwriting the faulty F.57 version on the fly would be very good for all 690 owners.
