wondering if there will be compatibility or performance issues when replacing a 2400 MHz RAM with a 2666 MHz one in your system?

No, there shouldn't be a compatibility issue. Your computer's RAM speed depends on your processor, and if your current processor's allowed RAM speed is 2400 MHz, RAM speed will throttle down to 2400 MHz on a 2666 MHz RAM stick.
