lost pci bus 2 on my older S5-1224 pavillion slimline desktop. What to do?

You didn't say how you know you lost it 🙂

 

If it's because something is plugged into it that is not showing up in Windows, go into device manager and see if it's there and needs to be enabled.

 

You can also check the bus controller from the device manager for errors and update the driver or delete the bus from the device manager and reboot.

 

You may only need to download a driver, I can't really say until you describe the situation in a little more detail.
