cant update my windows 10 ? keeps saying:

Your device is missing important security and quality fixes.

There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80073701)

so ive been trying for months to fix this?

one site said to:

  • Press the Windows + R combination on your keyboard to launch the Run utility.
  • In the text field, input control.
  • Hit Enter.
  • Go to Programs and Features.
  • Scroll down and click on the problematic Microsoft Office product.
  • Select Change.
  • Click Quick Repair.
  • Next, hit Repair.
  • Wait for the repair process to be done.

could not find " problematic Microsoft office product '' ?

or anything like it? tried a few things but gave up?

then i ran DSIM and it took awhile. after 100% it said unable to run missing files or something.

a few days later i tried again from this way:

  1. Select the start button and type cmd

  2. Right click or long press on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.

  3. If you receive a User Access Control (UAC) dialog for Windows Command Processor stating, "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?", select Yes.

  4. Type or copy and paste the following command into the Command Prompt window:
    dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

  5. Wait for the command to complete.

  6. Restart your device.

  7. Try checking for updates again.

Said 100% & successful, restarted but didn’t work, same issue

Then I tried

3)   DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Then it said “ source files could not be found”

It said to use “ source “ option with a bunch of stuff I could not understand, copy & paste?

What do I do now?

I think I will try to run the SFC just to see what happens since I don’t know what else to do?

I am not very smart at this stuff and getting discouraged?

Thanks in advance?

Hi

Running DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth at an admin command prompt will fail if Windows Update is broken. This command uses Windows Update.

Try the sfc /scannow command. This command will scan all protected system files, and replace corrupted files with a cached copy at %WinDir%\System32\dllcache. The %WinDir% placeholder represents the Windows operating system folder in C:\Windows if Windows is installed on the "C" drive.

Try creating a different user account. check for Windows Updates on the new account.

I would also check hardware. Start the PC. Tap "ESC". Select "F2".

Make sure you run system and component tests for memory and storage devices.

This site has some additional tips https://windowsreport.com/windows-update-error-80073701/

Clearing the software distribution folder or stopping and starting the Windows Update Service may help

Don't know anything about Restoro PC Repair Tool referenced at this site. I would skip that or try at your own risk. They may want money and it may not work.

You may have to back up data. Do a clean Windows installation if you can't fix the problem.

thank you so much for the help.

no luck so far......this is what i have done:

3)   ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Then it said “ source files could not be found”

It said to use “ source “ option with a bunch of stuff I could not understand, copy & paste?

4 )  ran the sfc /scannow in command prompt

It finished and said “ did not find any integrity violations “

5 ) restarted computer & Attempted to download windows 10 version 21H2

failed

6 ) Found update troubleshooter in advanced settings.

Took 1-1/2 hrs to resolve issues.  then said it had fixed some things and to try update again?

Restarted  computer.

7 ) Downloaded windows 10 version 22H2 download failed

8 ) restarted computer, ran windows update trouble shooter again

It said “unable to identify the problem “pretty quick

10) ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth in CMD again

Souce files could not be found error 0x800f081f

11 ) ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:\RepairSource\Windows /LimitAccess

Same results “source flies could not be found?

12  ) logged out and tried update on wifes user side. Same results.

13 ) ran operating systems check no issues found.

i looked at that link and sometime this weekend i will try:

Restart the Windows Update service

Reset the Windows Update components

then i guess try to download update assistant? i may do this first.

i dont like downloading 3rd party stuff????
