I had gone on a minecraft website that you could get skins on and I believe it could've given me a virus. I am not sure how because I have used this website before. The website name is The Skindex. Ever since I downloaded the skin i have been getting pc accelerate ads and my computer has been very laggy and slow. I have tried many virus checkers but they all say I have nothing on my computer. I deleted the download of the skin in my folder aswell.

Hi @amandazq,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It's possible that downloading from the website might have introduced malware or adware to your system, even if the virus checkers haven't detected anything. Here's a step-by-step guide to help clean up your system and improve its performance:
1. Uninstall Suspicious Programs
- Open Control Panel: Press Win + X and select Control Panel.Go to Programs and Features: Click on Uninstall a program under the Programs category.Look for Suspicious Programs: Uninstall any programs you don't recognize or remember installing, especially ones that appeared around the time your problems started.
2. Use Malware Removal Tools:
- Go to the Malwarebytes website and download the free version.Install and run a full system scan. Follow the prompts to remove any detected threats.
3. Check Browser Extensions
- Open your browser and go to the extensions or add-ons page:
- For Chrome: chrome://extensions/
- For Firefox: about:addons
- Remove Suspicious Extensions: Disable or remove any extensions you don't recognize or trust.
4. Clear Browser Data
- Open your browser settings.Clear browsing data: Choose to clear cache, cookies, and other site data.
5. Reset Browser Settings
- Open browser settings.
- Find the reset option:For Chrome: Settings > Advanced > Reset and clean up > Restore settings to their original defaults. For Firefox: Help > Troubleshooting Information > Refresh Firefox.
6. Disable Startup Programs
- Open Task Manager: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.Go to the Startup tab.
- Disable unnecessary startup programs: Right-click and select Disable on any programs you don’t need to start with Windows.
7. Perform a System Restore
- Open Control Panel: Press Win + X and select Control Panel.Go to System and Security: Click on System > System Protection.
- Perform System Restore: Click System Restore, choose a restore point before the issues started, and follow the prompts.
8. Update Windows and Drivers
- Run Windows Update: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
- Update Drivers: Use Device Manager to update your hardware drivers.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
