Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

It was in the middle of updating Windows and it shut down and now when I power up it says: no boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed with no disk

Greetings Melody16i,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

It is best to provide a specific HP product number only for better assistance.

I suggest you run HP diagnostics (Link) at system startup to check components, specifically the HDD.

Tap "Esc" at boot. Select "F2" . Run System Tests.

The Windows update may have messed things up (operating system boot loader corruption) or your HDD has failed. HP Diagnostics should solve this question.

Get back to the forum with diagnostic test results.

Regards
