HP ENVY All-in-One - 32-a0009na

Computer fan is noisy and runs  all the time - I have cleaned the inlet grill with a vacuum cleaner which made no difference.

What should I try next?

Hi @Johnjj1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A persistently noisy fan on your HP ENVY All-in-One 32 could be due to several factors, including high internal temperatures, dust accumulation, or software/hardware issues. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially reduce the fan noise.

Check CPU Usage and Temperature:

  • Open the Task Manager (press Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check for any applications or background processes using a high amount of CPU. If any non-essential processes are consuming significant resources, consider closing them.
  • Use a temperature-monitoring tool (like HWMonitor or Core Temp) to check if the CPU or GPU temperatures are unusually high, which may be causing the fan to run constantly.

Update BIOS and Drivers:

  • Ensure that your BIOS and drivers, especially the graphics and chipset drivers, are up-to-date. Updated firmware can sometimes improve thermal management and fan control. You can check for updates on the HP Support website.

Adjust Power Settings:

  • In Control Panel > Power Options, select a balanced or power-saver plan. You can also click on Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings and look for settings related to the processor and cooling policy. Adjusting the cooling policy to “Passive” may help the fan run less frequently.

Use HP’s Diagnostic Tools:

  • HP’s Support Assistant has diagnostic tools that can run system checks, including fan and thermal diagnostics. Running these may help identify if there's a specific hardware issue causing the fan noise.

Check for Software Issues:

  • Sometimes, software or firmware bugs can cause fans to run continuously. Running a system restore to a time before the issue started, if applicable, might help if a recent software update is causing the problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
