Have you run diagnostics?
Tap the ESC key after powering on to run diagnostics.
Do not allow any updates if disk or memory fail, especially a BIOS update.
As part of the BIOS update, the old bios and the new one are stored in an HP recovery partition. It seems that partition either does not exist or is too small.
You will need to take the second option where the BIOS is written to a bootable USB and you boot up the USB to do the install.
It is always dangerous to upgrade bios. Unless there is a real need and the HP support assistant requests the upgrade, I would not do it. I just looked at BIOS history and the only BIOS worth upgrading to is F.11
Fixed in this release: 1. Fix Gaming WMI issue on Linux 2. Fix "Hard Disk Error" pops up and cannot enter OS when we plug a blank disc in Optical Drive and restart the system |
All the other bios upgrades are security related and will slow down your gaming laptop. If you have F11 or any newer bios then you are ok. If your system is in warranty then HP can fix it if the BIOS upgrade bricks your system. If your bios is older than F11 then put in the latest but be aware a bios update fail will ruin your system.
