Hi @Jagadish25,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing some issues with the HP S1000 mouse and its behavior, especially when compared to using your laptop's touchpad. Here’s a guide to help you troubleshoot and adjust the settings to match your preferences:
1. Adjust Mouse Click Behavior
The HP S1000 mouse might have different default settings compared to your laptop’s touchpad. Here's how to adjust the mouse settings:
Open Mouse Settings:
- Windows 10/11:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Mouse.
- Click on Additional mouse options on the right side (or scroll down to find it).
- Mac:
- Go to System Preferences > Mouse.
Change Click Settings:
- Single vs. Double Click:
- Ensure that the mouse is set to use single-click or double-click appropriately. Typically, for a mouse, single-click should select an item, and double-click should open it. Adjust this in the Mouse Properties under the Buttons tab (Windows) or the Point & Click tab (Mac).
Adjust Click Speed:
- You might find a setting for Double-click speed. Adjust this to make sure that the mouse registers clicks correctly. A setting that's too fast might result in unexpected behavior.
2. Handle Multiple Windows Opening
When using Chrome and clicking on its icon while it’s already running, it opening a new window might be due to the mouse’s behavior or Chrome’s settings.
Check Chrome Settings:
- Open Chrome Settings:
- Click on the three vertical dots (menu) in the top right corner.
- Go to Settings > On startup.
- Check if any settings might be causing a new window to open when you click the icon.
Change Mouse Settings:
- In Mouse Properties (Windows) or Mouse Preferences (Mac), adjust settings for how new windows or tabs are handled.
3. Adjust Scrolling Behavior
If clicking on empty space results in scrolling instead of selecting, you may need to adjust the scroll settings:
Change Scrolling Settings:
- Windows 10/11:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Mouse.
- Adjust the Scroll settings and check if "Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them" is enabled. This setting might be causing unintended scrolling.
- Mac:
- Go to System Preferences > Mouse or Trackpad.
- Adjust scrolling settings to your preference.
Check for Scroll Lock or Mouse Software:
- If the mouse came with specific software or drivers, open the software and check for any settings related to scrolling or button functions. Adjust these settings as needed.
4. Update or Reinstall Mouse Drivers
Outdated or incorrect drivers can cause various issues. Updating or reinstalling drivers might help.
Update Mouse Drivers:
- Windows 10/11:
- Open Device Manager (right-click on Start menu and select it).
- Find Mice and other pointing devices and right-click on your HP S1000 mouse.
- Choose Update driver and follow the prompts to update.
Reinstall Mouse Drivers:
- If updating doesn’t help, you can uninstall the driver from Device Manager and then restart your computer. Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.
5. Check for Conflicting Software
Sometimes, other software or utilities can conflict with mouse settings.
Safe Mode:
- Boot into Safe Mode to see if the issues persist. If they don’t, the problem might be with some third-party software.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
