Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I had 5 beeps. Something with video. Bougth a new (used) motherboard solved that problem. For some reason all restore options end up with an everlasting windows icon and a message (rotating wait icon). I have a original 2TB harddrive.  Also tried a brand new 1TB HD with the same result.

The Mother Board is a AAHD2-HY (Holly?!). My ques now is a corrupted BIOS. But without a running opperatiing system it is impossible to restore this. The tools I can find are not compatible with a bootable USB with DOS.

Anyone a sugestion how to solve this problem?

Thanks for your concern.

This is the solution: It was my own fault. The cable between MB and the antenna board was at the wrong position on the motherboard. Ik removed the connector (and antenna board, i dont use it) solved the problem! Sorry for all the confusion and thanks for your concern!

@PerryB

Welcome to the HP Forums,
I hope you're well,

As I understand the issue is with a corrupted BIOS and you want to know how to restore it before getting into windows (do correct me, if I'm wrong),

HP recommends using original factory shipped hardware to ensure optimal performance, with that said, to restore or recovery bios you may attempt the below steps:

To recover an earlier version of the BIOS on your PC:

  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. With the computer off, press and hold the Windows logo key  and the B key at the same time.

  3. Still pressing those keys, press and hold down the Power button on the computer for 2 to 3 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows and B keys until the BIOS update screen is displayed or until you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps).

The power LED light remains on, and the screen remains blank for about 40 seconds before anything appears on the display. You might also hear beeping sounds. Eventually, an HP BIOS Update screen displays and the BIOS update begins automatically.

  4. If the HP BIOS Update screen displays, proceed to step 4.

If the HP BIOS Update screen does not display, do one of the following depending on the condition:

    • Computer boots into Windows - The computer will boot into Windows if the power button and keys are released too soon. Repeat steps 1 through 4 above, holding the power button down for 2 or 3 seconds.

    • Power LED light turns off - The computer will turn off if the power button is pressed and held down too long. Repeat steps 1 through 4 above, holding the power button down for between 2 and 3 seconds.

    • After repeated attempts, the HP BIOS Update screen does not open - Your computer does not support this function or it has a hardware problem that is preventing the tool from opening. Contact HP using the Contact Support tab at the top of this page.

  5. After the BIOS is recovered, a Continue Startup button displays and a timer counts down. Click the Continue Startup button to restart the computer immediately. The computer will restart automatically when the timer reaches zero.

  6. When the computer restarts, a black screen appears with a message similar to the following:

A system BIOS Recovery has occurred.
    BIOS Recovery (500)
    Enter - Continue Startup

Press the Enter key to continue immediately or allow the computer to reboot automatically.

     NOTE:

After restoring the BIOS, if the computer repeatedly displays a message about the BIOS, go to the HP Drivers and Downloads page and enter the model name of your computer. Select your computer model from the drop down menu and then select your operating system. Select BIOS to upload the latest version of the BIOS.

  7. After restarting, Windows may display a message stating that the computer was improperly shut down or that a boot problem was detected. Read and respond to the screens to continue.

If the issue persists, However, you will need to contact the HP Phone support for a repair.

This BIOS restore does no work on  the aahd2-HY I have. Does anybody recognize the behavior I am experiancing? Any tips are welcome. The main problem is that I can restore but after restart the sytem hangs with a rotating icon and no harddisk activity. Tried a brand new Harddisk with same effect.

BTW my ald motherbaord (also a AAHD2-HY gives 5 beeps. Any sugestion on that error is also welcome.

Thanks again!

Thank you for replying,

I appreciate the clarification and the details you've provided about your concern,

The hard disk replacement was worth the shot however, it wouldn't make any difference to your computer if the Bios has failed or is corrupted,

For details regarding beep codes: Click here

I would recommend contacting the HP phone support for a hardware service (free repair, if your computer is covered by the HP warranty).
