Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The current drivers installed will not recognize a new SSD.  I was told by ScanDisc to update my drivers since they are from 5/25/2010 version 1.2.100.177.  Anyone know where I can get some compatible drivers so I can replace my old HD with a new SSD?  Thanks  PS  When I try to update the drivers it tells me I am running the best version.  There has to be an updated driver in the last 9 years I would think.

Hi Sgucci1,

Windows File Explorer detects the disk okay.

The clone operation should work. The SSD should load Windows after a successful clone.

Have you tried Macrium Reflect free (Link)?

I use Macrium all the time with great results. Never had a failure unless the source drive was corrupted or the target drive was bad.

Can you start Windows when using the source drive?

Run a check disk on the SSD when it is detected in Windows as a data drive. I am guessing you see the SSD at some point during this process.

Try a clean W10 install on the SSD if you have a good OS image on the existing HDD. This will preserve your current OS installation and all data on the existing HDD.

Disconnect the HDD. Connect the SSD to the vacant HDD SATA port. Try a clean install on the SSD to see what happens.

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

My Microsoft provided Windows 10 SATA drivers are version 10.0.18362.1 created in 2006. My Samsung 2.5 inch SATA SSD works fine.

Something else is going on in your situation.

You need to provide details on exactly what you were doing with the new drive which is leading you to believe you need updated SATA drivers.

For example,

-You installed the new drive but Windows 10 File Explorer does not see the drive.

-Or, you cannot clone the operating system on the HDD to the new SSD.

The SATA SSD should just work out of the box if the existing SATA HHD is detected by the system.

Hi there,

Thank you for your response.  Not sure what the problem is.  The scandisk utility software does not detect the SSD either.  Windows explorer detects its, and I was able to close using the WD Acronis software with no problem.

When I try to boot using the SSD I just get the spinning circle, and like I said, the Scandisk utility software does not detect it either.  I have re cloned it numerous times using different cloning software with the same results.  The PC originally had Win 7 on it and it has been upgraded over the years to Win 10 current version.

Hi,

I used Macrium as suggested and that worked, thank you.  The odd thing is though that the Scandisk utility software still does not recognize the SSD.  Oh well, as long as it's working it doesn't matter.  Thank you for all your help.
