Hi @maestrop090,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP PC lags after being plugged in, it could be due to power plan settingsthermal throttling, or driver issues. Here’s how to troubleshoot and fix it:

1. Check Power Plan Settings

When plugged in, Windows might switch to a power plan that prioritizes energy efficiency over performance.

  • Press Windows + X → Power Options
  • Click Additional power settings
  • Select High performance or Ultimate performance (if available)

2. Disable Processor Power Throttling

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings
  • Click Change advanced power settings
  • Expand Processor power management
    • Set Minimum processor state to 100% (both on battery and plugged in)
    • Set the System cooling policy to Active

3. Update Graphics and Chipset Drivers

  • Open Device Manager
  • Expand Display adapters and System devices
  • Right-click each and choose Update driver
  • Or visit HP Support Assistant to auto-detect and update drivers

4. Check for Thermal Throttling

If your laptop overheats when plugged in, it may throttle performance to cool down.

  • Use HP Command Center or HWMonitor to check CPU temperatures
  • Clean vents and ensure good airflow
  • Use a cooling pad if needed

5. BIOS Update

Sometimes BIOS updates fix power-related performance issues.

  • Visit HP Software & Driver Downloads
  • Enter your PC model and check for BIOS updates

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
