Hi @Manasa7,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the power options on your HP Laptop PC 15s are disabled and you're unable to shut down or restart your PC, here are several steps you can take to resolve the issue.

Enable Power Options via Group Policy Editor (for Windows Pro or higher):

  • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
  • Navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar.
  • Find the settings Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate commands.
  • Double-click on this setting and make sure it's set to Not Configured or Disabled.
  • Click Apply and OK.

Check Power Options via Registry Editor (Windows Home users):

  • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type regedit and press Enter.
  • Navigate to this path:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
  • Look for a key named PowerdownAfterShutdown.
  • If it exists, double-click on it and set its value to 0.
  • If it doesn't exist, right-click in the right pane, create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value, name it PowerdownAfterShutdown, and set its value to 0.

Reset Power Plan Settings:

  • Open Control Panel and navigate to Power Options.
  • Click on Choose what the power buttons do on the left side.
  • Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • Ensure that the options for Shutdown and Sleep are not unchecked.
  • Go back to Power Options and click on Change plan settings next to your active power plan.
  • Choose Restore default settings for this plan.

SFC and DISM Scans (to check for system file corruption):

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  • Run the following commands one by one:
    • sfc /scannow (wait for it to finish)
    • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • Restart your PC and check if the issue is resolved.

Check for Malware:

Some malware can modify system settings and disable power options. Run a complete virus scan using Windows Defender or a third-party antivirus program.

Create a New Local User Account:

If nothing works, there might be an issue with your user profile.

  • Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
  • Under Other users, click Add someone else to this PC.
  • Set up a new local account and log in with this account to check if the power options are working.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
