Hi @gary102,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you're encountering issues with a performance optimizer task on your computer. Troubleshooting this kind of problem can involve several steps. Here are some general suggestions that might help.
-
Check for Updates: Ensure that your system, antivirus software, and the performance optimizer tool itself are up to date. Sometimes, issues can arise due to outdated software.
-
Run in Safe Mode: Boot your computer in safe mode and try running the performance optimizer task. Safe mode loads only essential drivers and may help identify if the issue is related to third-party software conflicting with the optimizer.
-
Disable Antivirus/Firewall: Temporarily disable your antivirus or firewall and see if the performance optimizer task completes successfully. Sometimes, security software can interfere with system optimization tools.
-
Review Task Manager: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check for any processes that might be consuming a significant amount of CPU, memory, or disk. This could help identify if some other process is hindering the optimizer.
-
Check Disk Space: Ensure that you have enough free disk space on the drive where the optimizer is working. Running out of disk space can cause tasks to fail.
-
Review Error Messages: If there are specific error messages when the optimizer task fails, take note of them. They can provide valuable information about what might be going wrong.
-
Event Viewer: Check the Windows Event Viewer for any relevant error or warning messages around the time the optimizer task failed. This can provide more detailed information on the issue.
-
Reinstall the Optimizer: Uninstall the performance optimizer tool and then reinstall it. This can resolve any potential corrupted files or settings.
Remember to back up important data before making significant changes to your system, such as reinstalling software or making changes in safe mode.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
