Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, i have noticed that when the pc is idling or in sleep mode or in hibernation mode i can hear a "humming" noise that seems to be coming from either the SSD or the CPU,it is quite loud and i can hear it plainly from 5 metres away. This has been present from day 1(pc is less than 1 month old) and so i did a windows 10 clean install with the microsoft media creation tool as i thought maybe a driver was to blame and i was also having problems with downloading "not showing in folder" for a few minutes, search was "working on it" and copy/paste went to 84% and hung for a few minutes, these issues went away with the clean install  but the "humming" issue still persists. The pc works flawlessly now and i have gone through all the HP diagnostic screens via the HP support assistant with no issues found, should i be concerned?

Kind regards

Temujiin

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

I see that loud noise when in sleep mode,  I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Does this issue appear when the power supply is plugged in?

Let's perform bios update and check the issue:

Download and install the latest available BIOS update from the HP Customer Support website.

  1. Go to HP Software & Driver Downloads, and then enter your computer product number.

  2. Look through the available software for BIOS, click it, and then confirm it is a higher version number and it is for your processor type.

    • If the update is correct, click Download. Follow the on-screen instructions to save the file to your computer. Do not select the option to Run the file.

    • If the update is not correct, view the details of other available BIOS updates. If there are no other updates, the computer does not require a BIOS update.

    • If BIOS is not in the list of available software, an update is currently unavailable.

  3. Make sure the power cord is connected to the notebook. Keep it connected during the BIOS update process.

  4. Close any open applications.

  5. Temporarily disable your antivirus software. Search Windows for 'security', open the Security and Maintenance settings, and then click Security to access virus protection settings.

  6. Browse to the folder or desktop where you saved the downloaded BIOS update file.

  7. Find the file name (example: sp12345.exe), and then double-click it to start the installation.

The following behaviors can occur during the update process: the computer beeps, display turns off, cooling fans turn on or off, and the power button light flashes.

CAUTION: Do not shut down or restart the computer until the update process completes.
  8. Follow any on-screen instructions, and then restart the computer when prompted to complete the update.

  9. If Bitlocker was suspended, search Windows for 'bitlocker', and then click Resume Protection.

  10. Re-enable your antivirus software.

This should fix the issue,

Keep me posted for further assistance.

If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

Followed by clicking on "Accept as solution" from the drop-down menu on the upper right corner,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day!

Thanks Echo_Lake for your reply

The pc is the All-in-One 24-f0025na model not a notebook so the issues do appear when the power supply is plugged in, and i have done all the updates via HP Support Assistant which included the Bios update to version F.10, and also the System( fast + extensive ) and Component tests witch showed no errors. When placing my ear to the rear of the pc the humming is loudest at the top left area ( when looking at the front screen ) which according to the  Upgrading and Servicing guide is where the fan and heatsink are:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05933340

Doing a  community search for "Humming" produces 22 pages of results of which many seem to be related to the All-In-One models with not many resolutions , i think i need to contact HP support via their phone line and seek their advice on replacement/ refund?

Kind regards
