HP Pavilion Desk Top p7-1414 running Windows 10 at start up I get a red message block on a black screen. Message "Secure Boot Violation" "Invalid signature detected. Check Secure boot policy in startup. " Please advise how I can recover from this error. Windows will never load. All hardware tests run an found no failure. I do not seem to be able to get the system to accept changes to startup to boot from legacy rather than secure boot.

Greetings,
Welcome to the forum.
I am not a HP employee.
Did you add any new hardware? Do you have any bootable USB or CD/DVD media connected to the PC?
You should be able to change from Secure boot to Legacy support.
Instructions to accomplish this task can be reviewed at this site (Link). You have to confirm the change upon restarting the PC to enable Legacy support.

I have tried the process you suggest it the computer will not boot and I cannot get to a windows screen to restore the OS. Is there a way to get the restore process without a Windows disk. This pc came with Windows 8 and was upgraded to 10 by down load. My recovery disks are not working either.

Hi,
This is very strange.
You have not added hardware and you are not using unsigned boot media. You stated you checked hardware with passing results.
Sounds like your BIOS may be corrupted. Can you get to the BIOS? Try resetting the BIOS to defaults if you can enter the BIOS.
Try pulling the CR2032 motherboard (MB) battery. Let the PC sit for about 15 minutes. Install a new MB battery. This will reset CMOS.
Clear the HP Secure Boot Keys in the Security Menu, Secure Boot Configuration.
You may have to get rid of the boot error message before you can try a recovery or install W10 clean.
Create W10 installation media on a different PC using this Microsoft site (Link).
See if you can boot to the media on this PC. You might be a able to install W10.
You will lose data unless you connect the HDD to a different PC as a data drive so you can copy stuff to an external backup drive.

Grzwacz, Thanks. I finally managed to get the pc booted into recovery mode with a boot thumb drive made on another computer. I had previously saved all files I need from the original drive and reinstalled Windows8 as original, then upgraded to windows 10. I found a recoverable error on original start up disk. Windows reformatted the disk drive. I double checked foe errors and found none. The pc performed like new.
