Officejet 5740 printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an old HP Officejet 5740 printer that I can't remove from my HP Support Assistant Desktop. I have signed into my HP Smart account and it's not listed there. But also, on my Desktop I am not given an option to remove the device. I got rid of this printer a few years ago. Would like to get it out of my list of devices.

@mamasurfer, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

To remove an old device like your HP Officejet 5740 printer from the list in HP Support Assistant, you can follow these steps:

Open HP Support Assistant:

  • Launch the HP Support Assistant application on your desktop. If it’s not already installed, download it from the HP Support Assistant page.

Navigate to Device Management:

  • Click on your name in the top right of the HP Support Assistant window. If you are not signed in, you may see an option to "Create account / Sign in."

Manage Your Devices:

  • After signing in or clicking on your profile, a list of your current devices should appear.

Remove the Printer:

  • Locate the HP Officejet 5740 printer from the list of devices. Click the blue ‘x’ next to the device you want to remove.

Additional Tips:

  • Ensure you are signed in with the correct HP account that lists the device.
  • If you don’t see the option to remove the device, check for any updates for the HP Support Assistant application or try restarting the application.
