Today my computer prompted me to do a windows update and there didn't seem to be a way to say no, so I restarted my computer to proceed. Once I did that, my programs (especially adobe lightroom, which is what I primarily use my computer for) kept freezing, so I tried to do what I have done in the past to roll back the update, but when I looked at recent updates, there wasn't anything for today, so I found something about reverting back to an earlier version of windows and I clicked that. Now my computer has been stuck on the HP logo screen for maybe an hour - no other messages, no other progress indication. Should it be taking this long and I should just keep waiting or is it totally f)(*&cked and I should hard restart (and, if do that, will I lose everything?? - I have backed up my files, but not the very most recent ones....)
Thanks for any insight.

I know my question is vague because I know a lot, but not all the super technical stuff, and I am desperate -- I found some info on what I did to try to ckarify: it was this second option here:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4097-go-back-previous-version-windows-windows-10-a.html
But after the last screen of "restoring your previous version" nothing else is happening except a screen with the HP logo for probably almost two hours now -- is it supposed to take this long? Is something not working? What should I doooooo?
Thanks

Probably you have ruined your system. Advanced troubleshooting in a PE-Environment is not easy and you need several DISM-commands and an updated install.wim to exchange system files.
But that doesn't give you the guarantee that it works because registry entries are probably also involved.
But you have a good chance to save your files. This can be done also in a PE-Environment. I hope that they are not on the C-Partition.
You can also download Macrium Reflect, prepare a Backup/Recovery-USB Stick and save your personal files first.
Then download the latest Media Creation Tool (MCT) from Microsoft and make a clean install. During the installation create a separate partition for your personal files.

If anyone cares, I finally turned my computer off and on again and am now backing up the most recent stuff I had, just in case. Lightroom is still not working properly without freezing, but that's perhaps a separate issue.
