Hi Everyone, Got an issue with secure deletion and restoring to factory settings. A clean install.
A friend wants me to wipe their system of all data and then give me the pc. This is what they have:
HP Pro Desk 400 G5 Desktop Mini
Tried windows restore several times which completes with error message: there was a problem resetting your pc. No data or settings have been affected.
tried running: sfc /scannow (fails to run)
I know HP have there own cleaning system called secure erase.
1. enter BIOS and look at security, select hard drive tools, select secure erase.
Options run as it is or tick 1 of 3 boxes and run; which options do i choose?
1a. Remove or keep GPT of system hard drive
1b. second part drop down menu options (local source or recovery section in case of corruption) cant remember exact wording
2.Allow or not allow OPAL hard drive SID authentication
Note they are all blank unless selected.
So do i leave as default or tick 1 or more boxes?
Third option I guess is to use media creator from Microsoft on a usb stick, and run boot from this instead.
The process must not need an internet connection to work as there isn't one!!! I need to keep O.S. working as of factory settings
any advice would be most welcome .
Thanks

Hi IVOO,
No I followed all Hp instructions which were few and limited.
It wiped O.S. as well as everything else.
Reinstalled O.S. from usb using media creator.
Repeated process changing settings with exactly the same result.
Shame Hp don't give fuller guidance on this.
