Microsoft Windows 11

Windows 11 23H2 update to 24H2 every time fails due to incorrect HP drivers. HP detects drivers to be updated (incl AMD and BIOS updates). Have installed all listed files (I have seen all the individual exe's running and completing). After reboot, re-running HP again, it comes back with exactly same list of required updates, as if all have apparently failed. And Windows update continues to fail.

@Jan2222, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out — I know how frustrating it can be when updates seem to install but don’t "stick."

From what you've described, it looks like the HP Support Assistant is detecting the same updates repeatedly, even after successful installations. This can sometimes happen due to caching issues or when the system doesn't properly register the installed version.

Here are a few quick steps you can try:

Verify if the updates actually installed: Check the BIOS version in msinfo32 and driver versions in Device Manager to confirm if they're current.

Clear HP and Windows update caches: Try uninstalling HP Support Assistant temporarily and delete the C:\SWSetup\ folder. Also, renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder (via Command Prompt) can reset stuck Windows Update processes.

Reinstall drivers manually: Download them directly from the HP website instead of using auto-detection. Sometimes this works better.

If the BIOS and chipset drivers are up to date after manual checks but still show as pending, it’s safe to ignore them in HPSA for now. As for the Windows 11 24H2 update — once drivers are verified, try using the Windows Installation Assistant to upgrade.

Let us know your exact HP model and if the BIOS version reflects the update — we’ll be happy to dig in further.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
