Microsoft Windows 11

I was formatting my desktop with Windows 11, and then I couldn't hear audio sounds on my system speaker. Previously, that was okay.

Hi @jewelnagarpar

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining that—losing sound after formatting your HP desktop can be super frustrating, especially when it worked fine before.

Let’s walk through a complete checklist to help restore your audio. 🔊🛠

Step-by-Step Fix for No Sound After Formatting

🧰 1. Check Default Audio Output

  • Go to Settings > System > Sound.
  • Under Output, make sure your speakers are selected.
  • Test the volume slider and click Test to confirm.

🔄 2. Restart Audio Services

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Find these services:
    • Windows Audio
    • Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
    • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
  • Make sure they’re set to Automatic and Restart each one.

🧠 3. Reinstall Audio Drivers

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  • Right-click your audio device (e.g., Realtek, Intel) > Uninstall device.
  • Restart your PC—Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

If that doesn’t work, download the latest driver from the HP Support site.

🧪 4. Try Microsoft’s High Definition Audio Driver

  • In Device Manager, right-click your audio device > Update driver.
  • Choose Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list.
  • Select High Definition Audio Device from Microsoft and click Next.

🔧 5. Run Audio Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  • Run Playing Audio and follow the prompts.

🧼 6. Disable Audio Enhancements

  • Right-click the speaker icon > Sound settings.
  • Select your output device > Properties.
  • Under Enhancements, uncheck Enable audio enhancements.

Let me know how it goes—whether the sound returns or if we need to dig deeper. You’re doing all the right things, and we’ll get your desktop singing again! 💪😊
