Hello, I don't seem to have much luck...this a new computer 1 month, and I am resetting back to Factory  so that I can give it to my son, however, I started the process only to find it is stuck at 42%. I understand I should wait for several hours if it does not proceed what should I do If there are any links to downloads like creation tool for another computer would help.

Q2  if I have to use the creation tool will I loose the factory goodies that came with H.P?

Thank you in advance. Richard

The two main reasons that resets hang are: (1) lack of disk space, and (2) failing hard drive -- neither of which should be the case with your PC.  So, I have no idea why it is hanging.

Also, if you restore it from HP Recovery Media you have created (see below), that will reinstall all the HP stuff.

If your PC is a 2016 model or newer, you should see if you can make a bootable USB recovery drive using the HP cloud recovery tool on a working PC.

The recovery drive can then be used to install Win10 and the HP drivers and utilities that originally came with your PC.

Hello and thank you for response...it was hanging because I had no patience...I waited a few hours .? Then it reset with no problems...I was never very good at waiting...so all is well.

In understand the impatience -- but it should not have taken several hours to reset the PC.

This long time could be an indicator of a failing drive.

If your PC is new enough to support UEFI, you can use these steps to test the hard drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024

If not, to check the drive you have to follow these steps:
1) Press Esc key repeatedly, several times a second, while rebooting the laptop. Do NOT hold the key down, just press it over and over.
2) Eventually, you will see an HP Startup Menu
3) Press the Function key for testing the hard drive (usually F2) and let it run.
