I upgraded my hard drive from 750gb to 2tb. Before doing this I made a backup on my external NAS which took 2 days, the system was so slow (the main reason for the upgrade). When I try to recover everything, it appears to work but the programs don't show up and the HP touch features aren't there. Am I doing something wrong and is it possible to reinstall the touchsmart features (carousel, lagoon screensaver, etc.) from HP support?

Your description of the very long backup time, tends to indicate that your local drive is failing -- as there is no way it would take that long to read a 750GB drive locally and back it up over a local network.  I have done the same here with 1TB drives and it only takes a few hours, at most.

If the drive is failing the filesystem would be corrupted and even if you could recover programs, one or more components could easily be corrupted -- explaining why they do not work.

If the drive has gone back, since you already made a backup, there is nothing else you can do at this point to get your stuff back.  You need to consider replacing the drive and doing a fresh install to get a working PC back.

Yes, the state of the computer is what compelled me to upgrade. Now I have a 1TB hard drive and 8gb memory (only 2 of the 4 memory sockets worked). I tried to restore from my backup which after several attempts didn't work so I gave up and did a fresh Windows 10 install. Now, I'd like to install the Touchsmart feature, (carousel, lagoon screensaver, etc.) but my computer didn't come with software. Is there a site I can download from ?
