is the p6803w compatible with windows 10 having having a time trying to upgrade from windows 7

Unfortunately it isn't.
The onboard Integrated AMD Radeon 4200 graphics adapter has no support for the later versions of W10.
What kind of issues are you experiencing during the upgrade process?
You might be able to get W10 to work by installing a cheap legacy graphics card such as an AMD Radeon HD 6450, but I can't guarantee it.
You can find one in used but tested and working condition on eBay.
I see them for as low as $9.00. The ones that indicate they are for Dell PC's should also work in an HP PC.
New, they are about $45.00, and I don't recommend spending that amount of money without a 100% chance of a successful upgrade to W10.
