I bought a HP ENVY Desktop Computer pre loaded with Windows 8.1. I have a retail box Version of Windows 8 Pro with which I used to upgrade my new HP to in order to download Windows 10 Pro.
The windows 8 pro wiped out the entire HP pre load and did a clean install…..However I could not get on the internet. Microsoft tells me that they do not supply wifi/network drivers with any upgrade but that I would have to get those from HP. How do I do that when I cannot get on the internet? So I restored the system back to HP factory defaults (8.1)
How do I upgrade from windows 8.1 to windows 8 pro and keep the hp drivers etc.
the only option the windows 8 pro gives me is to save nothing

You Guys Rock
I upgraded to windows 10 pro from windows 8 home
They gave me a license key to use for the upgrade and after the upgrade they wanted a windows 8 pro license key which I had. This worked like a charm thanks a lot

Hi:
Download the W8 drivers you need before upgrading to W8 Pro.
Then they will be in your user profile (downloads folder) in the Windows.old folder.
Otherwise download them now, save them to a USB flash drive, and install them with the flash drive after you upgrade to W8 Pro.
Just make sure you plug the USB flash drive in one of your PC's USB 2 ports.
If there are no W8 networking drivers for your PC, please give me the names and model numbers of the ethernet and wireless adapters, and I will try and find the W8 drivers you need.
You can find the names and model numbers of those adapters in the device manager under the Network Adapters device manager category.

Please forgive my ignorance
But if I understand correctly all of the ability to get on the internet or set up WiFi is within
My HP ENVY Computer as HP only apps. So if I upgrade from windows 8.1 to windows 8 Pro
I lose all that ability? What if I bought a Motherboard & CPU and built my own system and then loaded my box set of windows 8 Pro where would I get the drivers from. Not being on the internet?
I am an old duffer and just trying to understand why I have to use HP drivers only. Any help would help

Greetings,
Paul, there is one other option available to upgrade Win 10 Home to Win 10 Pro using a Win 8 Pro product key.
You can upgrade Win 8.1 Home to Win 10 Home.
Then use the Win 8 Pro product key to upgrade to Win 10 Pro.
Please see this Microsoft Support document.
Cheers!

Hi Paul,
Tried to PM you.
I am jaco1x4.
Jazzed up the association between my previous user name and email address.
I have no logical explanation as to why I did this! But I did.
Talked to ********_F. It cannot be fixed so I had to create a new user account.
Good to be back and helping folks.
Oh, BTW, finally got the Envy 810-150se running Win 7 Pro. Smooth as silk! You, Dave, and I tried to solve this problem back in 2014.
Cheers!
