Hi @ghapp247 , Welcome to HP support Community!

Since the issue started immediately after enabling the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) in your Z400's BIOS, the most direct solution is to disable the TPM in the BIOS and restore the previous settings. Enabling a security feature like TPM can alter how the system initializes and manages hardware, which can sometimes interfere with USB device detection, particularly on older systems.

Step 1: Enter the BIOS
Restart your Z400 workstation.
During startup, watch for the message telling you which key to press to enter the BIOS setup. For HP workstations, this is often the F10 key. You may need to press it repeatedly as soon as the HP logo appears

Step 2: Disable the TPM
Once you are in the BIOS setup menu, use the arrow keys to navigate to the Security tab.
Look for a setting related to the TPM or "Embedded Security Device".
Change the setting from "Enabled" to "Disabled." It may also be labeled as "TPM State" or "TPM Device Status"

Step 3: Save and exit
Navigate to the Exit tab of the BIOS menu.
Select "Save Changes and Exit."
Your computer will restart. Check if your USB ports and MIDI devices are working again.

Additional Troubleshooting:
  • Clear the CMOS: If simply disabling the TPM does not work, clearing the CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor) memory will reset all BIOS settings to their factory defaults.
    • Find the jumper: Power down your computer, unplug the power cord, and locate the CMOS jumper on your motherboard. Refer to your Z400's service manual if needed.
    • Move and restore: Move the jumper from its standard position to the "Clear" position for 10–15 seconds, then move it back.
    • Restart: Plug in the power cord and restart the computer.
  • Update BIOS and drivers: If the problem persists after disabling the TPM, consider updating your Z400's BIOS and motherboard chipset drivers to the latest version. You can find these on HP's official support website for your specific workstation model.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
