OMEN 30L Desktop GT13-1114 Bundle PC (328M9AA)

hi!

i will preface by saying that i did buy my pc off of amazon, which was probably not a great idea. regardless, ive had it for a month and a half. a few weeks ago i was playing a game and all of a sudden my ping spiked, i had never had that issue with my internet or pc before so i was concerned. i bought an internet adapter and since then ive been having issues with my usb ports. in short, they disconnect. they are registered in task manager and says that everything is fine but after an hour or so, they disconnect. it doesnt unplug, but it acts like it is. i do have an extender but even with my mouse, keyboard and external storage plugged into my pc itself, they still disconnect. its becoming more and more frustrating seeing as i rely on my pc day to day. im unsure if this is an issue with the pc itself or something i did wrong.

Frequent disconnections of USB ports on your OMEN 30L Desktop GT13-1114 Bundle PC (328M9AA), especially after installing an internet adapter, can be caused by several factors, including driver conflicts, power management settings, or hardware issues. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

 

1. Update Drivers

Ensure that all your drivers, especially USB drivers and network adapter drivers, are up-to-date.

Update USB Drivers:

  1. Right-click on the Start menu and select "Device Manager".
  2. Expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
  3. Right-click on each USB Root Hub and select "Update driver".
  4. Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software".

Update Network Adapter Drivers:

  1. In Device Manager, expand "Network adapters".
  2. Right-click on your internet adapter and select "Update driver".
  3. Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software".

Update System Drivers:

  1. Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your OMEN 30L Desktop.

2. Check Power Management Settings

USB ports may disconnect due to power management settings.

Disable USB Selective Suspend:

  1. Right-click on the Start menu and select "Power Options".
  2. Click on "Additional power settings".
  3. Click on "Change plan settings" next to your selected power plan.
  4. Click on "Change advanced power settings".
  5. Expand "USB settings" > "USB selective suspend setting".
  6. Set both "On battery" and "Plugged in" to "Disabled".
  7. Click "Apply" and "OK".

Prevent Windows from Turning Off USB Devices:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
  3. Right-click on each USB Root Hub and select "Properties".
  4. Go to the "Power Management" tab.
  5. Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
  6. Click "OK".

3. Check for Hardware Conflicts

Sometimes new hardware can cause conflicts with existing hardware.

  • Reinstall the Internet Adapter:
    1. Unplug the internet adapter.
    2. Uninstall its driver from Device Manager (right-click and select "Uninstall device").
    3. Restart your computer.
    4. Plug the internet adapter back in and reinstall its driver.

4. Update BIOS

An outdated BIOS can sometimes cause hardware compatibility issues.

  1. Visit the HP Support website.
  2. Search for your OMEN 30L Desktop model.
  3. Download and install the latest BIOS update following the provided instructions.

5. Check for Windows Updates

Ensure that your Windows operating system is up-to-date.

  1. Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update".
  2. Click on "Check for updates".
  3. Install any available updates.

6. Inspect Hardware Connections

Ensure all internal and external connections are secure.

  1. Turn off your PC and unplug all cables.
  2. Open the case and carefully check all internal connections, including the USB headers on the motherboard.
  3. Reassemble and reconnect all external devices.

7. Test USB Ports

Determine if the issue is isolated to certain USB ports or all of them.

  1. Test different USB devices in each port.
  2. Note any specific ports that consistently cause disconnections.

8. Consider a Powered USB Hub

If the issue persists and is related to power draw, using a powered USB hub can help provide stable power to your USB devices.
