Whenever I plug in the charger, the laptop starts to lag significantly, impacting my ability to work efficiently.
This problem occurs consistently every time the charger is connected. I have tried various troubleshooting steps, including using different power outlets and chargers, but the issue persists. The lagging stops as soon as I unplug the charger, indicating a direct correlation between the charging process and the performance of the laptop.

Hi @PUrushottam_123,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When a laptop starts to lag significantly upon plugging in the charger, this can be due to several reasons, including power settings, hardware issues, or software conflicts. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
1. Check Power Settings
Adjust Power Plan Settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep.
- Click on Additional power settings.
- Select Change plan settings for the current power plan.
- Click on Change advanced power settings.
- In the Power Options dialog, check the settings under Processor power management:
- Set Maximum processor state to 100% for both On battery and Plugged in.
- Set Minimum processor state to a low value (like 5%) for both On battery and Plugged in.
Switch Power Plans:
- Try switching to a different power plan (e.g., Balanced, High performance) to see if it makes a difference.
2. Update Drivers and BIOS
Update Drivers:
- Go to Device Manager.
- Expand the categories and right-click on devices like Display adapters, Processors, and Batteries.
- Select Update driver and choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Update BIOS:
- Visit the HP support website and download the latest BIOS update for your specific laptop model.
- Follow the instructions to update the BIOS carefully.
3. Check Battery and Charger Health
Battery Health Check:
- Open HP Support Assistant and run a battery check.
- Alternatively, press Win + X and select Windows PowerShell (Admin).
- Type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter. This generates a battery report you can review for any anomalies.
Charger Check:
- Ensure the charger is an official HP charger compatible with your laptop.
- Try using a different HP charger if available to rule out charger issues.
4. Scan for Malware
- Run a Full System Scan:
- Use Windows Defender or a trusted third-party antivirus program to scan your system for malware that could be affecting performance.
5. Check Resource Usage
Task Manager:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Check the Processes tab to see if any process is using an unusually high amount of CPU or disk resources when the charger is plugged in.
- Also, check the Performance tab to monitor CPU, Memory, Disk, and GPU usage.
Resource Monitor:
- In Task Manager, click on Open Resource Monitor to get more detailed insights.
6. Windows Performance Options
- Adjust Performance Options:
- Right-click on This PC and select Properties.
- Click on Advanced system settings.
- Under the Advanced tab, click on Settings under Performance.
- Select Adjust for best performance or customize settings to see if it improves the lag.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
