HP Pavilion HPE h9-1200 Phoenix Desktop PC series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I updated my desktop on 1/3/2018 with the Windows 10 update 2018-01 (KB4056892).  Since then, the CPU has had a significant load and I have also experienced problems with several applications.  It is no longer possible to use the Windows Edge browser (this application will open, but it is not possible to scroll, access links or enter data).  I have tried to repair and to rest the application.  Internet Explorer works to some extent, but not well.   I have had similar problems with a few other software applications.  I have performed this update on my HP laptop and no issues resulted.  The significant difference between my laptop and desktop computers is my desktop has a SSD drive.  All of my driver software is up to date based on the HP Support Assistant.  I would appreciate any ideas to resolve these problems.

Hi:

I was aware of the recent Intel processor security flaw issue and that this patch was supposed to be in reaction to that.

I noticed this morning that my 8200 Elite CMT business desktop, with an Intel 2nd generation i7 core processor failed to install the subject update.

So, I googled the problem to see if there was a fix.  I found several links regarding that update and resultant issues almost exactly what you are describing.

I have posted some of those links below for your information.

My workaround was to run the W10 hide windows update tool to prevent that update from installing until Microsoft releases a better update to the Intel processor security issue.

What you do is up to you, but I recommend that if you can, do a system restore and select a restore point prior to when that update was installed, run the hide windows update tool and wait it out too.

I have this exact same problem.  Intel HP running win10 KB4056892never installs - machine hangs on boot forever.  Tried every fix.  Nothing worked until I HID that update - which is NOT a solution long term.

Obviously it isn't a long term solution, which I why I stated to live with the issues this update causes, or hide the update, and wait until Microsoft fixes the update with a new release.

M$ is aware of the problems this update has caused many users, and no doubt are working on a new release.
