Hi @zaksaudi,

The error message "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error" is a common problem during the installation of Windows operating systems like Windows 10 or Windows 11. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve this issue on your HP 290 G4 Microtower PC:

Steps to Fix the Installation Error:

  1. Access Command Prompt:

    • When the error message appears, press Shift + F10 to open the Command Prompt.
  2. Modify Registry Settings:

    • In the Command Prompt, type regedit and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
    • Navigate to the following path:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\Status\ChildCompletion

    • Find the entry named setup.exe on the right side pane.
    • Double-click on it and set the Value data to 3.
    • Click OK and close the Registry Editor.
  3. Restart the Installation Process:

    • Return to the error dialog, click OK, and allow the system to restart.
    • The installation should proceed without displaying the error message again.

Additional Considerations:

  • Verify USB Bootable Media: Ensure that your bootable USB is properly created. You can use tools like Rufus to create a reliable Windows installation USB.

  • Check Compatibility: Ensure that your HP 290 G4 Microtower PC meets the system requirements for the Windows version you are trying to install.

  • BIOS Settings: Verify your BIOS settings are configured to boot from USB and are set to UEFI/Legacy mode compatible with your Windows installation version.

  • Driver Issues: Sometimes outdated or incompatible drivers can cause installation issues. Ensure all your hardware drivers are up-to-date.
