Hi @katwilk1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're trying to remotely log in to your personal HP computer using your work credentials, but you're hitting a Windows Security prompt that rejects your password. Here's how to troubleshoot this:
1. Clarify the Login Context
- Are you using Remote Desktop (RDP) to connect to your personal PC?
- If yes, are you entering your work domain credentials or your local/personal PC credentials?
🔐 Important: You must log in using the username and password of the target machine (your personal HP PC), not your work credentials—unless your work account has been added to that PC.
2. Check Remote Desktop Settings on Personal PC
On your personal HP computer:
- Go to Settings > System > Remote Desktop.
- Ensure Remote Desktop is enabled.
- Click “Select users that can remotely access this PC” and make sure your user account is listed.
3. Use the Correct Format for Username
When prompted by Windows Security, try entering your credentials like this:
- For local accounts: \YourUsername
- For Microsoft accounts: yourname@outlook.com
4. Check Network and Firewall Settings
- Ensure both PCs are on the same network (or use VPN if remote).
- On the personal PC, allow Remote Desktop through the firewall:
- Go to Control Panel > Windows Defender Firewall > Allow an app.
- Ensure Remote Desktop is checked for both Private and Public networks.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
