HP Pavilion Desktop - 550-036
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I have tried many times to reinstall the original OS after a problem. I need to fully update my BIOS then I'll upgrade to win 10 edu. My Intel Lan drivers fail with error that it can't extract the cab. Also the Intel rapid storage technology software both RAID & AHCI terminate the install with error that it needs >NETY 4.5 framework to do it. It's supposed to be part of windows 8.1 pro. I did install the .NET 4.8  framework because the installation assistant needed it to function. How to fix?

Hi:

According to the product specs for your PC it comes with a Realtek gigabit ethernet adapter, not an Intel one.

I would use the latest Realtek W8.1 ethernet driver directly from the Realtek site.

Download, unzip and run the setup application from the W8.1 driver from the link below...

You don't need the IRST software/driver.

The intel chipset driver should install the storage controller driver for your PC.

Thank you. I got the RealTek controller installed. Now after a hardware change (I added Ram). I am missing software like recovery manager & Cyberlink software's along with a few others. I had a power failure while I was going back to a restore point. I had to reinstall the operating system. I tried with my recovery media but it says I am no longer able to use it. I did install Hardware Diagnostics & most of the drivers. Am I going to have to buy the recovery media? I don't think my PC is covered by the cloud software restore. Thanks again for you help.

You're very welcome.

The recovery manager software is not available for download, and the only other software available for download would be on your PC's support page.

If you want to restore the drive to its 'out of the box' condition, you will need to purchase recovery media.

I'm not sure that it will include creating a recovery partition and the HP recovery manager software though.

HP no longer sells recovery media for your PC, but this vendor has it.
