2666 mhz supported 2133 default

mobo supports 2666, I purchased corsair lpx 3000 mhz with the intention of running it at 2666 mhz but I can't find a way to change the memory speed on this "gaming" desktop, should I just return the pc?

Yes, I agree with you 100%.

I have no idea why the memory isn't running at 2666 MHz.

You also need to check what speed the processor supports and it does support 2666 Mhz memory.

All of the memory in there is 3000 MHz or 2666 MHz minimum?

For example:  If there is a 2133 MHz chip in there for some crazy reason, the whole PC will run at 2133 MHz.

The memory speed can't be changed by the user.

That is an automatic setting.

So, if you are not happy with it, return it if you still can.

Both sticks are 3000 mhz and the desktop came with 2666 mhz memory OTB but just 1 stick, so It does support 2666.

None of the 11 reviews I read mentioned that deficiency.

I would imagine everyone's PC's memory would be running at 2133 Mhz.

How does yours run with the single stick of original 2666 MHz memory?

Ok so the good news is that it is not the PC.

So, what is your end goal?

Add another 8 GB of memory and have 16 GB running in DDR mode?

Add 2 x 16 GB of memory?

Add 2 x 32 GB of memory?

If you just want to double up the memory for now, you can get the same module you have in there now...

but it still performs quite poorly and definitely compared the dual corsair 8 gbs even running at 2133. I just want to know why the ram is only running at 2133 instead of at least 2666 when all parts have 2666 capability, the corsair vengeance lpx 3000mhz that is, if I swap it for the 2666 mhz version of corsair do you  think I'd have the same problem I read a lot of reviews before committing to this desktop and everyone said very easy ram upgrades =-/ . but intel xmp was never supported by hp?

I think you will have the same problem with the Corsair Vengeance LPX 2666. The memory will run at the SPD 2133.[edit]l  the top non-XMP setting of that memory is 2133. 

I have the identical Vengeance LPX 3000 kit and am expecting to encounter the same 2133 issue you are having with yours. It's unfortunate that HP does not allow some memory adjustments in the BIOS to get the memory to run at 2666.

I installed 2x16 GB of Patriot Viper DDR4 2666MHz, and it only runs at 2133MHz.  I did not realize the BIOS does not allow memory speed adjustments.

Disappointing.
