I received an error regarding the fans not working.  I cleaned everything and ended up taking it into a shop where they replaced the fans.  However,  they indicated that it was the motherboard not reading the fans a well as the mouse and monitor. It is s fairly new computer (just over a year) but we are just outside the warranty.

Any assistance on what we should do? Pretty bummed out that it isn't working for it being somewhat new. I emailed HP support, but they have not gotten back to me (it's been over a week).

Hi @Squishypea

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That’s frustrating, especially since your laptop is fairly new. Since the 90B error persists even after replacing the fans, it suggests a deeper issue—possibly with the motherboard’s fan controller or a firmware-related problem. Here are some steps to explore:

Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  2. Hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain residual power.
  3. Reconnect the battery and power adapter.
  4. Try turning on the laptop.

Step 2: Update BIOS & Firmware

  • Sometimes, outdated BIOS or firmware can cause the motherboard to misread fan speeds.
  • Visit HP’s support page and download the latest BIOS update for your model.
  • Install it and restart your laptop.

Step 3: Check Fan Connections

  • If the repair shop replaced the fans, ensure they properly connected them to the motherboard.
  • Loose or improperly seated connectors can cause the system to fail to detect the fans.

Step 4: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Turn off your laptop.
  2. Press F2 repeatedly while turning it on.
  3. Run the System Test to check for hardware failures.

Step 5: Consider a Motherboard Repair

  • If the motherboard isn’t detecting multiple components (fans, mouse, monitor), it may have a faulty controller chip.
  • You may need to consult a third-party repair technician for motherboard diagnostics.

Let me know what results you get, and I can refine the approach further! Hopefully, we can get your laptop running again.
