I cannot add an email to my new HP laptop - the error message I get is that this cannot be completed

  • Are you trying to add the email to a specific application (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Windows Mail, etc.), or is this through a web browser?
  • Is the error message accompanied by a specific error code or additional details?
  • Have you confirmed the email address and password you're entering are correct, and is the email account active?

 

Check Internet Connection:


Ensure your laptop is connected to a stable internet connection. Try loading a website to confirm the connection is working.

Verify Email Settings:

  • If you're using an email application, ensure you’re entering the correct incoming and outgoing server details for your email provider (e.g., IMAP, SMTP settings). These can typically be found on your email provider's support website.
  • Confirm the email address and password are entered accurately.

Update Your System:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and install any pending updates.
  • Check if the email application requires updates (via Microsoft Store or the application's website).

Run Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Navigate to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  • Select Internet Connections and Apps from the Store (if using a Windows Mail app) to diagnose and resolve potential issues.

Reinstall or Use Another Email App:

  • If you’re using a third-party email app (e.g., Outlook), uninstall and reinstall it to resolve any configuration issues.
  • Alternatively, try setting up your email in a different app, such as Windows Mail or a browser, to rule out app-specific issues.
