I saw that SPDR is discontinued.  After installing the replacement (SP160047.exe), can I delete the folder SP144692 and its contents?

Hello TEKTECK,

Thank you for posting your concern,

Deleting Installation Files After Driver Update

Once you have successfully installed the new driver or software package from the executable file sp160047.exe, it is generally safe to delete the installation files and folders associated with the older version, such as SP144692. These folders typically contain temporary files used during the installation process and are not needed for the operation of your system post-installation.

Here are some steps and considerations before deleting the folder:

  1. Confirm Successful Installation:

    • Ensure that the new version has been successfully installed and is functioning properly. Double-check the device manager or the relevant application to confirm that the updated driver or software is operational.
  2. Backup Important Data:

    • It's always a good practice to backup important data before making any deletions, although the SP folders often do not contain critical data.
  3. Verify Redundancy:

    • Ensure that you do not need to roll back to a previous version due to compatibility or performance issues. Typically, once a new version is running smoothly, it's safe to proceed with deletions.
  4. Disk Space:

    • Deleting these folders frees up disk space that was used during the installation process, which can be beneficial.

If you're confident that the new installation is stable, you can go ahead and delete the SP144692 folder and its contents to recover some disk space. Always remember to check that no essential files required for the running of your system or applications are within that directory.
