Summary of Issue – HP OMEN 25L Desktop G12-1xxx (Product number: 4L905EA#ABU)

Hello everyone,

I’m reaching out for help regarding my OMEN 25L Desktop. I’ve spent the past 3 days troubleshooting a major FPS drop issue after following a BIOS update tutorial, and I want to give a complete picture of what’s happened.

Day 1 – BIOS Update and Initial Problems

My system was running normally before the BIOS update:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti

RAM: 16GB 3200 MT/s

I was getting 300+ FPS in BF4 (empty server) with no drops.

I followed a YouTube tutorial claiming a “FPS boost” through BIOS tweaks.

The tutorial had me update the BIOS from a 2021 version to the latest 2025 F.24 Rev.A.

Immediately after the update:

FPS dropped significantly

GPU usage was capped around 29–30%

CPU usage maxed at ~40%

Massive stutters, even on an empty server

I could not access advanced BIOS settings (prebuilt limitation), so I couldn’t adjust RAM speed, CPU boost, or PCIe settings.

Day 2 – Troubleshooting Attempts

I tried almost everything to restore performance:

Drivers:

Updated GPU and chipset drivers to latest versions.

Tried older GPU drivers as a test.

BIOS Check / Settings:

Checked all BIOS settings; no advanced options for memory or overclocking available.

Tried resetting CMOS (power down + unplug, battery reset).

Windows & OMEN Hub Settings:

High Performance power plan in Windows.

Verified OMEN Gaming Hub set to Performance Mode.

Checked GPU and CPU usage in System Vitals.

Reflashed BIOS:

Re-downloaded F.24 BIOS and ran a clean reflash.

Loaded Optimized Defaults after reboot.

GPU usage fluctuated better (24–70%) in Windows/browser, but still capped in-game at ~33%.

Tested Games:

BF4 and BattleBit: FPS still far below previous levels.

GPU never reached full utilization in-game.

Forum & Support Attempts:

Posted questions on HP forums explaining issue.

Tried contacting HP AI assistant — it could not provide a solution or approve rollback.

Day 3 – Next Steps / Current Situation

GPU utilization in Windows now fluctuates normally in idle/browser, but still capped at ~33% in-game.

CPU usage remains max ~40%, indicating the CPU is not boosting properly.

Tested reflashed BIOS again — no improvement in actual gaming performance.

Microsoft / Windows overlays do not appear to affect FPS.

I’ve realized:

This is likely a firmware / BIOS limitation with F.24.

The only way to truly restore original FPS is rolling back to the 2021 BIOS, but HP AI assistant couldn’t confirm if that’s safe.

What I Need Help With

Can someone confirm if it is safe to rollback to the 2021 BIOS to restore full performance?

Are there any workarounds on F.24 to allow the GPU to fully utilize and restore my previous FPS?

Any tips for prebuilt HP systems where advanced BIOS settings are hidden?

Background Note:

I did this BIOS update thinking I might gain 10–20 extra FPS, but my system was already running optimally before.

I want my original performance back without risking motherboard damage.

Thank you in advance for any guidance.
