AIO 24-g211la
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The BIOS information provided by Windows, CMD, and third-party applications all indicate that I have BIOS version F.72 (12/11/2020), but when I try to install version F.75 (BIOS family 8381 - 11/20/2024 - sp155825.exe) within Windows 10, which is the latest, I get the message 'The BIOS you are installing is older than the current version in the system and cannot be executed'; which is obviously an error. I tried installing all the previous available versions (F.68 - F.73), and the same message appeared. Also, this computer does not have the option to update the BIOS outside of Windows, which means it is impossible for me to upgrade. What can I do?" (AIO 24-g211la)

@Cochuelo, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're facing a frustrating issue with the BIOS update on your HP All-in-One 24-g211la. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Verify Current BIOS Version

First, ensure that the current BIOS version is indeed F.72. You can check this by running the following command in Command Prompt (Admin): wmic bios get smbiosbiosversion

Cross-reference this with the version shown in System Information (msinfo32) to confirm accuracy.

Use HP BIOS Update Utility

Instead of running the installer normally, try using the HP BIOS Update tool directly:

Steps:

  1. Extract the BIOS update package:
    • Run the downloaded sp155825.exe, but do not proceed with the installation.
    • This will extract files to a folder, typically C:\SWSetup\SP155825.
    • Locate the HPBIOSUPDREC64.exe tool in that folder.
  2. Manually update the BIOS:
    • Open Command Prompt (Admin) and navigate to the folder: cd C:\SWSetup\SP155825

  • Run the following command to force the update: HPBIOSUPDREC64.exe -s -r

  • If that doesn't work, try: HPBIOSUPDREC64.exe -b -r

  • Restart your PC and check if the update was successful.

Check BIOS Lock Settings

If the system still refuses to update, it may be locked to a specific version. You can check for this in the HP BIOS Configuration Utility:

Steps:

  1. Enter BIOS Setup by pressing F10 during boot.
  2. Look for any settings related to BIOS Rollback Protection and disable it.
  3. Save changes and exit, then attempt the update again.

Use HP Cloud Recovery Tool

If all else fails, consider using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool to create a recovery USB. This will reinstall the OS along with the latest firmware, but it will erase your system, so make sure to back up your data first.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
