Hi everyone,

I’ve been noticing a strange performance issue on my HP laptop since the latest Windows update. Whenever I open image-heavy websites or switch between tabs, the browser hangs for a moment before the page becomes fully responsive. It happens in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge, so it doesn’t appear to be a browser-specific problem.

The odd part is that my general internet connection seems perfectly fine. Large files download normally, and streaming doesn’t buffer at all. The slowdown mainly happens when I’m loading websites with pictures, icons, or map widgets.

I did a few troubleshooting steps already:
• Cleared browser cache
• Reset DNS
• Disabled extensions
• Updated GPU drivers
• Ran HP Support Assistant diagnostics

The issue still continues. I’m wondering if this could be tied to the graphics drivers or something with the Windows update that affected rendering performance.

While testing different sites, I even checked some of the services I use regularly like (Edited) and the pages load slower than they used to on this laptop. And other normal websites I visit, like (edited) also feel noticeably sluggish when loading images.

If anyone has come across similar behavior or knows what settings I should check next (hardware acceleration, drivers, power settings, etc.), I would appreciate the advice

Hi @sergioo12,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing performance issues related to rendering images or graphics on your HP laptop since the latest Windows update. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. You can check the HP support website for the latest drivers specific to your model or use the Device Manager in Windows to search for updates.

Disable Hardware Acceleration: Some users find that disabling hardware acceleration in their browsers can resolve rendering issues.

  • In Chrome and Edge, you can find this option under Settings > System > toggle off "Use hardware acceleration when available".
  • In Firefox, go to Options > General > uncheck "Use recommended performance settings" and then uncheck "Use hardware acceleration when available".

Check for Background Processes: Use Task Manager to see if there are any background processes consuming a lot of CPU or memory resources. Sometimes, other applications or processes can cause system slowdowns.

Clear Cache and Cookies: Accumulated browsing data can sometimes cause performance issues. Clear the cache and cookies in your browsers to see if it resolves the problem.

Run System Diagnostics: HP laptops often come with built-in diagnostics tools. Running these can help identify any hardware issues.

Windows Performance Settings: Adjust Windows for best performance.

  • Go to System Properties > Advanced tab > Performance settings, and check "Adjust for best performance".

Disable Unnecessary Startup Programs: Programs that launch at startup can slow down your system’s performance. Use Task Manager to disable unnecessary startup programs.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a blissful day 😇.

Hi Sergio,

Try turning off hardware acceleration in your browsers to see if that helps. Also check Task Manager while the lag happens to see if the GPU spikes. If it does, roll back or reinstall the graphics driver. Running sfc /scannow and setting the laptop to best performance mode can also help after a Windows update.
