HP 14 inch Laptop PC 14-ep0000 (730S3AV)

I am connected to a reliable and secure Wi-Fi connection, but the only browser that opens is Microsoft Edge. The issue is that all bookmarks and passwords are saved to Google Chrome and Opera GX but neither of this will open. Both are supported on this laptop and both are the newest versions of the app. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both and turned my laptop on and off again but it still isn't working and I can't work out why.

@Joshua140, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Chrome and Opera GX Won’t Open Despite Stable Wi-Fi – HP 14-ep0000!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It’s definitely frustrating when your favorite browsers just won’t budge, especially when Edge works fine and you're sure the Wi-Fi is solid. Let’s try a few focused steps to breathe life back into Chrome and Opera GX:

Update Windows: Head to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and install anything pending — this can patch up hidden glitches.

System File Checker: Open Command Prompt (Admin) and type sfc /scannow. This scan digs deep for corrupted system files that could be blocking browser launches.

Firewall/Antivirus Check: Sometimes, overprotective settings may be quietly blocking apps. Check your firewall and antivirus permissions, and ensure both Chrome and Opera GX are allowed through.

Network Driver Refresh: In Device Manager > Network Adapters, right-click your Wi-Fi driver and try ‘Update driver’. If that doesn’t help, uninstall and restart your system to reinstall it fresh.

Reset Network Settings: Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset. This wipes old settings that may be holding things back.

Event Viewer: Search for ‘Event Viewer’, open Windows Logs > Application, and look for recent error logs tied to Chrome or Opera. These messages might hint at what’s going wrong behind the scenes.

If all else fails, and the issue persists even after a reinstall, we may need to dig a bit deeper.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
