HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15-ds1083cl
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello!

So I uninstalled my truevision camera HD from the device manager and restarted my computer. This is something I have done before on other computers and it usually reinstalls it. This time on this laptop it did not. It is completely gone. I tried to use the hp support software to run a hardware diagnostics and it does not detect a camera what so ever.

Am i able to just install the software for the Truevision HD Camera? I typed my serial number in the support webstie and it says there are no drivers or software available for this product. Can somebody pleasse help? I really dont want to have to to a complete reset on this laptop.

Hi @Robgmtv1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how unsettling it feels when the camera disappears completely after uninstalling—it’s natural to expect Windows to reinstall it automatically, and I appreciate the effort you’ve already put into diagnostics.

Let’s go step by step to bring the TrueVision HD camera back without needing a full reset.

Step 1: Scan for hardware changes

  1. Press Windows + X → choose Device Manager.
  2. At the top, click Action > Scan for hardware changes.
  3. If the camera is detected, it should reappear under Cameras or Imaging devices.

Step 2: Enable hidden devices

  1. In Device Manager, click View > Show hidden devices.
  2. Expand Cameras or Imaging devices.
  3. If the TrueVision HD camera is listed but greyed out, right‑click and select Enable device.

Step 3: Install Windows drivers

The TrueVision HD camera does not usually require a separate HP driver—it uses Microsoft’s built‑in drivers.

  1. Press Windows + IWindows Update.
  2. Install all pending updates, including optional driver updates.
  3. Restart and check if the camera is restored.

Step 4: Use HP App – Diagnose & Fix

  1. Open the HP App on your laptop.
  2. Select your device → go to Diagnose & Fix.
  3. Run the tool—it will check for missing drivers and reinstall components if needed.

Step 5: Confirm BIOS settings

  1. Restart and press Esc or F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  2. Look for Integrated Camera under System Configuration.
  3. Ensure it is Enabled.
  4. Save and exit.

Step 6: Test with Camera app

  1. Press Windows + S, type Camera, and open the Camera app.
  2. If the camera is detected, you should see the live feed.
  3. If not, return to Device Manager and check again.

You’ve already shown persistence by running diagnostics. The next breakthrough will likely come from scanning for hardware changes and checking BIOS settings.
