Yesterday I transferred data and documents from my old HP to my new HP via external modem.  When I try to open a document  (doc, xls or jpg) I cannot open it.  I CAN open jpg.  Help!

.doc is an "older format" of a Word document.

.xls is the file type for an Excel file.

Both of these are "Microsoft Office" documents.

Install your Office Software on the new computer.

Microsoft Office - Documentation / Website / How-to Instructions

With Key - Install Office on your PC or Mac

.jpg is an image file type.

Unless the file was corrupted during the transfer, it is not usually an issue to open a .jpg file with image viewing / editing software of your choice.
